Finding a Better Legal Method of Getting Through a Divorce

As lawyers in Fort Myers, Florida, we have seen both ends of the spectrum in regard to how contentious a divorce can be. Witnessing the damage it can do to children and adults, we vowed to find a better way. In the 1990s, attorney Sheldon Finman created cooperative divorce with retired Judge Hugh E. Starnes. This method is still used in Lee County today. In 2000, attorney Finman started practicing collaborative divorce, a similar technique. The point of both of these practices is for the couple to work together to create their own divorce settlement instead of taking the adversarial approach and handing their power over to attorneys and the court system. Couples leave the process more willing to work together as they continue to raise their families and have an easier time with life after divorce.
